[Testing] IVI prints with Translucent Orange PLA
over 4 years ago – Tue, Aug 13, 2019 at 11:28:33 PM

Dear IVIers,

Last week, we printed Translucent Dragonfly Necklace with Translucent Orange PLA. The model was shared by Syzygy, and designed by FlexionExtruder. Let's check out the result!

We can say that this little dragonfly is easy to print, but the result really depends on the printer. This model doesn’t need support. We set 0.06 mm for raft airgap, which makes the first layer smooth and the model easy to peel off. Printing this model can be a perfect testing for the accuracy of extrusion.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Technique: FDM 3D Printing

Nozzle diameter: 0.3 mm

Printing temperature: 210 ℃

Layer height: 0.1 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 0.9 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 1.5 mm

Support: No

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 148.8 * 146.2 * 3.3 mm (4 pieces)

Printing time: 2h 20m

[Testing] IVI prints with sparkling PLA
over 4 years ago – Thu, Aug 08, 2019 at 03:32:46 AM

Dear IVIers,

We are sorry for the delay of this week’s Challenge Accepted Game. The week #05 print failed because of the poor quality of the sparkling blue PLA. After long hours of printing and a few times of testing, we excluded the following possibilities:

  1. Print head clogging;
  2. Uneven heat dissipation of the heat sink caused by the ash accumulation;
  3. Malfunction of the extrusion wheel;
  4. Unstable heating of the heating device;
  5. Broken or clogging of the heat break.

And finally, we identified that the failure was caused by the fact that the diameter of the filament is inconsistent and there is a small bump on every other segment of the filament. The pictures below illustrate the problem.

As a replacement, we printed the model for week #05 again with the sparkling silver PLA. Below is the result.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Technique: FDM 3D Printing

Nozzle diameter:0.3 mm

Printing temperature: 210℃

Layer height:0.15 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 0.9 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 3 mm

Support: Yes

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 162.6 * 109.6 * 133.7 mm

Printing time: 17h 28m

[Testing] IVI prints with thermochromic color changing PLA
over 4 years ago – Tue, Jul 30, 2019 at 05:58:55 PM

Dear IVIers,

Last week, we printed Chameleon with thermochromic color changing PLA (From green to yellow). The model was shared by daniel-krueger12, and designed by freeoutlaw.

As you can see, the details are great and the model easily changes color when the temperature is high (Over 31℃). According to the testing, we found that this kind of filament is easy to print with, just like normal PLA.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Technique: FDM 3D Printing

Nozzle diameter: 0.3 mm

Printing temperature: 210℃

Layer height: 0.15 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 0.9 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 3 mm

Support: Yes

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 76.2 * 60.9 * 39.3 mm

Printing time: 3h 50m
