[Testing] IVI prints with noctilucent glow in dark PLA
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jul 22, 2019 at 02:34:10 AM

Dear IVIers,

Last week, we printed Yoda with Noctilucent Glow in Dark PLA. The model was shared by ilaria

and designed by Barak Moshe

Below are what we found from the test.

1. As Cherub Shiao pointed out before our test, glow in dark filament abrades the nozzle very easily. Both the brass nozzle and stainless steel nozzle we used were abraded.

2. The filament we used has a low viscosity which makes the model not easy to stick with the raft and we had to reduce the air gap between the raft and the model from normal 0.15 mm to 0.02 mm.

In summary, we do not recommend backers to print with glow in dark filament from the beginning.

PS Here is an inspirational quote that I like the most by Master Yoda, “No! Try not! Do or do not, there is no try.” Hope all of us can commit ourselves to something completely.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Nozzle diameter: 0.4 mm

Printing temperature: 220℃

Layer height: 0.15 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 1.2 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 3 mm

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 83.8*62.8*63.1 mm

Printing time: about 6 hours 30 minutes

[Testing] IVI prints with marble-color PLA
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 15, 2019 at 02:18:58 AM

Dear IVIers,

Thanks for the support of over 30 backers who shared with us the models they want IVI to print for Week #02, we printed the Moon City shared by ilaria as it gets the most likes among all the shared models. The model was created by Jukka Seppänen. Because the filament contains black resin particles, the nozzle temperature should be slightly higher and the nozzle diameter should be 0.4 mm.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Nozzle diameter: 0.4 mm

Printing temperature: 230℃

Layer height: 0.15 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 1.2 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 3 mm

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 137.83*129.84*149 mm

Printing time: about 21 hours 07 minutes

BackerKit Survey Reminder
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Jul 10, 2019 at 10:55:19 PM

 Dear IVIers,

This is to remind you that there are only five days left to complete and finalize your BackerKit survey (Pledge Manager survey). Till now, 1935 backers have completed the survey, and 502 haven’t. Below are some of the common questions you have raised regarding the survey.

1. Pre-launch Referral Program

If you joined our Kickstarter Pre-launch Referral Program, please specify the email address you used for the program. We will contact you after the survey ends.

2. The name to be engraved on your printer (Only for Very Early Beta Adopter)

25 Very Early Beta Adopters haven’t answered this question. If you are a Very Early Beta Adopter, please make sure you answer this question and the answer should be less than 25 characters, English letters only. Other characters will not be engraved.

3. What’s the difference between the 500 mW & 2500 mW Laser Module?

The 2500 mW is stronger, capable of cutting thicker materials that the 500 mW cannot. The 2500 mW can have its output lowered, so it can function as the 500 mW does as well. If you plan to use the laser module a lot, then the 2500 mW would be a better choice.

If you want to cut wood, you will need a 2500 mW laser. The 500 mW can only cut paper. Both lasers can engrave on wood, bamboo, fabric, leather, plastic, paper, acrylic. But with the 2500 mW head, you can engrave faster, and also you can engrave black anodized aluminum.

The laser-cut/engraved works we published are mainly made with the 2500 mW laser head.

4. What’s the functionality of CNC Carving Module?

CNC carving module supports wood, bamboo, acrylic, etc. The spindle speed of IVI CNC module is 2000 – 8000 RPM.

5. Where to download the files for CNC carver/laser engraver like Thingiverse for 3d printing? How to make the file?

Recommended laser engraver community for designs:

https://www.librarylaser.com/

https://www.ponoko.com/showroom/product-plans/free (shared by Vendela Susanne Ahlstedt Böcker)

Laser engraver: You can laser engrave SVG, DXF, JPEG, PNG files. You can laser cut SVG/DXF files. To get the correct format, you can convert the format via Inkscape (or other compatible software).

CNC carver: CNC carver has a higher requirement on the input file. Usually, it is a relief-shaped 2.5D model  or 2D model.

IVI will provide more detailed tutorials on using these two modules in the future.

6. When will you be charged?

If there are any additional funds you may owe through BackerKit, please make sure that you have the correct card information on file. Your card will be charged on 30th, July.

Thank you all again for being so responsive to answering our BackerKit survey!

[Testing] IVI prints with wood-filled filament
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 08, 2019 at 08:18:57 PM

Dear IVIers,

Thanks to every backer who joined our Challenge Accepted Game -- Week #01, we had a great start of the game. We would like to take this chance to invite more backers to join in this weekly game and get the chance to win a FREE 3D Scanner Module

The Baby Groot shared by joris97 was printed as it gets the most likes. The model was created by Byambaa

Tips:

  • Wood-filled filaments are typically a composite that combines a PLA base material with wood dust, cork, and other powdered wood derivatives. It is prone to nozzle clog and a larger size nozzle is recommended. This is also why we used a 0.4 mm nozzle in this test.
  • The quality of the filament means a matter of printing success or failure. If the wood particles in the filament is not evenly diffused and vary by size, it is most likely to jam the nozzle, resulting in a printing failure.

Below are the printing parameters for this test.

Nozzle diameter: 0.4 mm

Printing temperature: 200℃

Layer height: 0.15 mm

Printing speed: 60 mm/s

Wall thickness: 1.2 mm

Retraction speed: 60 mm/s

Retraction distance: 6.5 mm

Infill distance: 3 mm

Cooling system: ON

L*W*H of the model: 123.35 x 100.1 x 154.37 mm

Printing time: about 14 hours 24 minutes

almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 27, 2019 at 01:04:19 AM

Dear IVIers,

As we are working intensely to improve IVI’s structural design, software & hardware and get it ready for production as soon as possible, we are also running lots of printing tests on IVI.

To fully test IVI’s capabilities and help us better understand what you want to use IVI for, we invite all of you to join our “Challenge Accepted” Game and get the chance to win a FREE IVI 3D Printer’s 3D Scanner Module

Time: July 1 – August 31, 2019

Frequency: Once a week, 9 weeks in total

Eligible participants: All IVI's Kickstarter backers

What you need to do

1. Share with us the model you want IVI to print by replying below our topic in the Forum before every Wednesday.

  • The model should not be too big and should be able to be printed within 12 hours with the 0.3 mm nozzle.
  • A picture of the model and a link to download the STL file should be included in the reply.
  • If the shared model is not designed by you, please make sure you get the permission of the model creator to share in public. Name or page link of the creator should be included in the reply.

     For example:

I want IVI to print this model by “name of the creator” + “creator’s page link” + “model

picture”. The model can be downloaded from the “STL file link”.

2. Vote for the model that you like by liking that reply before every Wednesday.
